Grant-In-Aid Guidelines
Committee Chairman: Janet Metallo
The Grant-In-Aid Committee drafted guidelines in the fall of 2009 in an effort to bring clarity to the process of awarding scholarships. The following policy guidelines are currently in place.
1. One $500 scholarship will be given each academic year. (When funds are available, two scholarships are awarded.)
2. Eligible applicants must be
a) a woman who is student teaching during the fall or spring of the year indicated
b) seeking teacher certification through an accredited 4 year institution of higher education in Pennsylvania
c) a graduate of a high school in Tioga or Potter counties
3. Mansfield University’s Educational Field Experience Office will send an invitation to the students who meet the above mentioned guidelines. Invitations will be sent in September of each academic year. Applications will be received by November 1st in preparation for the November DKG meeting. Advertisements to local newspapers will inform students who do not go to Mansfield University about this opportunity and invite them to apply as well.
4. The committee will review all scholarship applications and will recommend the strongest candidates for consideration to the entire Pi Chapter. Pi Chapter will vote to finalize the winner at the November meeting.
5. The Scholarship award will be mailed to the winner with an invitation for the recipient to attend the April Pi Chapter DKG meeting. Recipients will be strongly encouraged to participate in this meeting. If she is unable to attend, then a possible lunch meeting will be encouraged by the committee.
